Buriram Airport
Samui International Airport (IATA: USM, ICAO: VTSM), also known as Ko Samui
Airport or Koh Samui Airport, is a privately owned airport situated on the
picturesque island of Ko Samui in Thailand. Located approximately 2
kilometers north of Chaweng, the island's main city and largest resort
center, the airport was meticulously crafted by
Bangkok Airways, with
construction commencing in 1982 and culminating in its official opening in
April 1989.
Distinguished by its unique open-air design, Samui Airport offers travelers
an immersive experience amidst the tropical ambiance. While the majority of
its facilities are outdoors, including the gift shop, ticket office,
restrooms, and VIP lounge area, the airport seamlessly blends modern
conveniences with the island's natural charm.
Samui Airport holds the distinction of being the country's seventh busiest
airport, welcoming over a million passengers annually. Its two terminals,
dedicated to domestic and international flights respectively, cater to the
diverse needs of travelers arriving and departing from the island.
Strategically located near the Big Buddha Pier, Samui Airport serves as a
pivotal transportation hub for visitors venturing to neighboring islands.
Ferries departing to Ko Pha Ngan can be accessed conveniently from the
nearby pier, while high-speed ferries bound for Ko Tao and Chumphon embark
from the Maenam Beach Pier, approximately 6 kilometers northwest of the
airport.
With its seamless blend of modernity and tropical allure, Samui
International Airport continues to enchant travelers, offering a gateway to
the pristine beauty and vibrant culture of Ko Samui and its neighboring
islands.
